Greetings from Pastor Arlo
I am so blessed to be serving here at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church.
I was born and raised in Southern California. Growing up, I spent my free time on the stage, at the beach, camping, and at Church. I attended the University of California in Santa Barbara and majored in Acting and Playwriting. During summer breaks, I worked at Ecke YMCA in camp programming and volunteered at Calvin Crest. Calvin Crest is a beautiful Presbyterian Camp & Retreat Center located right outside of Yosemite. At Calvin Crest, one of the leaders encouraged me to consider going into ministry.
Following a year of discernment, I attended Columbia Theological Seminary near Atlanta, Georgia. In Seminary, I spent two years serving at StandUp For Kids in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Stand Up for Kids is a non-profit that works with America’s street kids and children who have been forced into prostitution. I also served at Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco as the Pastoral Intern.
After Seminary, I accepted a call as the Associate Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, New Jersey. While on the East Coast, I happily fell in love with Lafayette College theatre technical director Zach Tysinger and we were married in August 2014. We have a female miniature schnauzer named Bellatrix who we adore.
After we were married, Zach and I felt lead to pursue a call at a Church that is dedicated to worship, mission and the community. We found that call at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church and are so glad to be here!
We even later on adopted another miniature schnauzer mix, a male puppy named Padfoot, here in Shadow Hills (see photo below of Bellatrix and Padfoot seated on my lap inside my office).
So, if and when you visit me during my weekday hours at the Church Office, you’ll see that our pet dogs Bellatrix and Padfoot are happily keeping me and other SHPC staff company too!
I am looking forward to getting to know you better, engaging in community outreach, preaching the Gospel, enjoying potlucks and celebrating the life of Christ with you!
