SHPC SCHEDULE OF REGULAR CHURCH ACTIVITIES:
Worship and Praise Service: Sunday Morning, Main Sanctuary, 10:00 a.m.
Note: A Quiet Room with a big one-way mirror is also available for families with very young children.
SHPC is also wheelchair-accessible, and can also possibly provide donated walkers and wheelchairs for use during the worship hour upon request.
SHPC’s Communion Sunday Morning Service at the Main Sanctuary takes place regularly on the 1st Sunday of the Month – except for December, given that month is the time of Advent, focusing on the coming of Christ, not His self-sacrificial passing.
In addition, Communion Sunday is moved to the 2nd Sunday of the month during the rare occasion when Bright Sunday (the 1st Sunday after Easter) happens to fall on the 1st Sunday of the month.
K-8th Grade Sunday School: Sunday Morning, Small Chapel, 10:15 a.m.
Pets Are Welcome Service (PAWS): First Sunday Afternoons, Small Chapel or Front Lawn, 5:00 p.m.
NOTE: PAWS does not take place during relatively rare instances of Inclement Weather and Natural Emergencies, such as during severe rainstorms and flooding, wildfires, earthquakes, and the like.
Blessing of The Animals (BoTA): A long-time tradition of SHPC open to the entire community, our next Blessing of the Animals is slated to take place within the Spring season of 2018 – given that Los Angeles County has recently approved having each single family household be allowed to have as much as four (4) dogs (as long as they get along, are medically cared for, trained, & fed in a timely manner, and are well-behaved, of course!) – as well as to properly celebrate how all out animals companions still loyally stick by use despite the many challenges nature at times poses to us.
All kinds of securely leashed/harnessed/transported animals are welcome, including but not limited to: household pets, service animals, and work animals!
Booth spaces for animal-friendly businesses and non-profits are also available at either free or low cost. Please kindly e-mail email@example.com or call PH # 818-353-2500 for more details.
Lent/Pre-Easter Weeknight Services: Ash Wednesday (March 1, 2017), wherein the ashen sign of Jesus Christ’s cross is placed on worshippers’ foreheads, and Maundy Thursday (April 13, 2017), wherein we commemorate the Last Supper, typically takes place during select 7:30 p.m. weeknight services at the SHPC Main Sanctuary within each year’s Lenten season, to meaningfully complement the yearly Sunday services that celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
Palm Sunday @ 10:00 a.m. for Holy Week: The Palm Sunday service already comes with church-provided palm leaves for worshippers to jubilantly wave with, and is also the time when the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) Fish Banks of monetary donations are collected to significantly support the Presbyterian Church-USA’s various year-long ministries worldwide: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program, and the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People.
Easter Sunday Services: SHPC has two (2) types of Easter Sunday services to choose from, based on one’s own schedule flexibility and personal worship style preferences, which are . . .
Easter Sunrise Outdoor Community Garden Service @ 6:30 a.m. – making the most of our blooming SHPC Community Garden space shared with the SHPC Preschool, this Easter Sunrise morning service is for those who are used celebrating Jesus Christ’s Resurrection at the crack of dawn amidst nature, just as our Savior Himself had risen. The Easter Sunrise Outdoor Community Garden Service is followed by some complimentary light snacks and beverages to help worshippers be fully alive, alert, and awake for Easter!
For this year of 2017, SHPC’s Easter Sunrise Outdoor Community Garden Service take place on the Sunday morning of April 16, 2017, at 6:30 a.m.
Traditional Easter Sunday Service @ 10:00 a.m. – This traditional liturgy and classical hymns service, which can take place either at the SHPC Outdoor Community Garden or inside the SHPC Main Sanctuary (depending on weather conditions), is followed by the kid-friendly Easter Egg Hunt @ 11:00 a.m. and the Outdoor Easter Buffet Breakfast @ 11:30 a.m., complete with live music provided by our volunteer instrumentalists! For this year of 2017, all of these Traditional Easter Sunday Service events take place on April 16, 2017.
Blue Christmas Advent Weeknight Service: During a select Advent weeknight, a 7:30 p.m., a Blue Christmas Service is offered at the SHPC Main Sanctuary to those facing significant grief during the year (ex. the passing of a loved one, or being alone/without family and friends to share the traditionally jovial Christmas holidays with). The Blue Christmas Service can also accommodate those who have to work or be on the road during the Christmas holidays and weekends too.
For this year of 2017, the Blue Christmas Weeknight Service will take place on the Thursday of December 14, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.
Christmas Eve (December 24) Services: Whether December 24 falls on a weeknight or a weekend night, SHPC generally offers two (2) types of Christmas Eve service formats to choose from, based on one’s schedule flexibility and personal worship style preferences, which are . . .
Young and Young-At-Heart Families’ Contemporary Christmas Eve Interactive Service @ daylight hours – Typically taking place during daylight hours to accommodate one’s extended family-and-friends dinner gathering plans, both children and adults can opt to wear church-provided Nativity costumes (ex. angels, shepherds, 3 kings, sheep, etc.) and engage in responsive Lessons-and-Songs dialogue, along with tactile activity booths, wherein anyone can make their own memorable Christmas souvenir to take home!
For this year of 2017, SHPC’s Contemporary Christmas Eve Interactive Service will take place on the Sunday morning of December 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
Traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Service @ 9:00 p.m. – Typically taking place at 9:00 p.m. during the weeknight or weekend evening prior to Christmas Day itself, this follows the traditional Christian liturgy and classic Christmas hymns performed by the SHPC Choir and guest performers (ex. visiting professional vocalists, instrumentalists, etc.), and concludes with a solemn candlelight silence in honor of Jesus Christ’s humble beginnings as the transient infant who will grow to become our Savior.
For this year of 2017, SHPC’s Traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Service will take place on the Sunday evening of December 24, 2017, at 9:00 p.m.
Twelve (12) Days of Christmas Member/Attender Open House Parties between Dec. 26 and Jan. 16, Yearly: Also originally known decades ago as our Winter Whing-A-Ding party season, SHPC members and attenders graciously volunteer their local neighborhood areas homes &/or other properly reserved public venues (ex. the SHPC Parlor, a gated community clubhouse, etc.) and unique cooking talents (showcasing our church family’s diverse ethnic heritages, which includes, but is not limited to: Southern USA soul food, Southeast Asian spicy and grilled treats, Old World European cuisine that includes Italian and French, classic American holiday foods, Latino-inspired festive meals, creative vegan and gluten-free recipes, and much, much more!!!), as well as engage in some spontaneous carol singing, games, and more . . . so we get to know one another in fun, cozy home settings outside of the church campus!
